What's a good name/term for new-school cyberpunk? You've all seen it. The minimalism. The drek-coated futurist dreams. The fucking triangles. A kind of dark future loosely based off our current day. Is it even directly related or just hipster shit?

Frankly I don't mind it, a "Deus Ex" clad world is infinitely more appealing than the corp-washed shithole most of us exist in. But it's not quite true to classic cyberpunk, in the 80s/90s sense. Does that qualify it for new terminology? Or is it flexible, since it's the concept of the ideal which matters, instead of the era.

If so, what would you call it?

'Cause Neo/nu-cyberpunk sounds fucking stupid, but that's just me.

>You will never experience 70s, 80s New York City
>tfw most if not all it's subculture is dead
>This also applies to L.A.

I'm thinking we are going to face a revival of this kind of life style in the future due to the fact the 70s and 80s were the result of counter-culture failing and being co-opted in the 60s. This current counter-culture may not be heavy on drugs but they do have this dysfunction with their mentality (which when this movement burns out they might get into drugs when they see their actions did nothing and left them without satisfaction).

Just an FYI

Cyberpunk fascists at 8ch

are trying to use 1980s futurism -

which is apparently not just 1980s nostalgia -

to invent a new glorious fascist art

I figure that they won't succeed without you.

Yesterday one of these two things happened:

- Josh quit due to lack of support from Hotwheels and 2ch.

- Josh has been fired for lying to Hotwheels about 2ch's involvement with Next.

How it happened

Around 19:30 on my end the beta instance of Infinity Next has been nuked and replaced with following weird message:

>Lord, patawad / Pagkat ako makasalanan / Makasalanang nilalang

>I made an executive decision to take a different direction in trying to save 8chan. Infinity Next is Infinity Never after all.

Shortly after Hotwheels announced that he will have a stream about this matter which he actually held six hours later. Hotwheels has revealed in a form of a leak from #8chan-staff that there was a fallout between him and Josh. Furthermore he has announced that he will hold a poll for deciding the next step.
The tweet in question:

https://twitter.com/HW_BEAT_THAT/status/691419336775368704

The stream and the leak are pretty one sided. As for now we should reserve judgement until Josh tells his part of the story.

You need to forward a port on your router to i2p.

goto i2p internals>bandwidth>advanc3e network config

Go down to UDP configuration and you'll see your port you want to forward too, a few lines under that will be "Externally reachable tcp port" make sure "use same port configured for udp" is checked.

–New York is Trying to Force Backdoors Into Phones With Legislation–
>>Over the last few months, we’ve seen a stream of anti-encryption rhetoric from various voices in New York State. Now, a formal bill has been put before the New York State Assembly, which would mandate that Apple, Google, Microsoft, and any other phone vendor create backdoor devices that would allow them to decrypt devices. The actual text of the bill reads:

>>Any smartphone that is manufactured on or before January 1, 2016, and sold or leased in New York, shall be capable of being decrypted and unlocked by its manufacturer or its operating system provider. (Reformatted from original to remove caps lock)

>Most neuroscientists estimate that the 'storage capacity' for the human brain ranges between 10 and 100 terabytes, with some evaluations putting the number at close to 2.5 petabytes.

How is this even quantified?

>>

 No.214

>>209
>How is this even quantified?

It follows a similar (BOGUS and lazy) logic to "the brain is only active like 10% at a certain time therefore we only use 10% of our brains". They think: "since neurons have on average 7,000 synaptic connections and a human has approx 85,000,000,000 so there are like 10exp14–10exp15 synapses. Therefore the brain has 2.5 petabytes of max. capacity because a PB = 10exp15bytes

The brain ain't a SQL database but a dynamic, complex and sometimes chaotic system which in fact can re-utilizes neurons or synapses for many other uses, meaning that a physical storage-and processing unit (or in this case neuron) can be used for different things at the same time.

The moral of the story, Harvard should stick to humanities and arts because advertising AI based solely on its name only ain't gonna cut it.

> WASHINGTON (AP) – The Obama administration confirmed for the first time Friday that Hillary Clinton's home server contained closely guarded government secrets, censoring 22 emails that contained material requiring one of the highest levels of classification. The revelation comes three days before Clinton competes in the Iowa presidential caucuses.

I've been thinking about the idea of non internet connected data lately.

I like the idea of dead dropping a usb drive with some info somewhere in my city. Then another user picks it up and carries it somewhere, and then so on and so on until it reaches its ultimate destination.

Obviously there are a bunch of ways this can go wrong. The first being without a large enough pool of people there will be giant gaps in the network and moving the physical data wont happen. The second is that some part of the chain will get the data and simply not pass it on.

Do you guys ever think about this sort of stuff?

Then assembly is a waste of time.

>>

 No.245

>>241
Oh. I thought I had to use a very low language to make the driver actually work. Like if I create my own tv myself and create my own parts and plug it in, it has no way of working because the computer doesn't recognize it. Is C better at this than assembly? Can you explain why? Just trying to learn from piss nothing sorry if I sound legally retarded.

>>

 No.247

>>245
The thing is assembly is processor specific. Different processor architectures use different instruction sets and porting an assembly code from one architecture to another means rewriting the whole thing, so that choice is good only if you are making a software/firmware for a specific hardware.
C is not architecture specific, which means that you write one source code and the compiler will be able to translate that same source code for all the architectures it knows.

You don’t really need assembly to write drivers. Your OS and maybe even your BIOS was probably written in C or C++. Also C is compiled, meaning that if the device doesn’t “recognize” your program, it is either because there is a library you didn’t include (which is easily fixed), or you compiled it for the wrong architecture (which you can’t do by accident).

>>

 No.250

>>247
Thanks, this is at least pointing me in the right direction. Stick with C.
